Minimally Invasive Surgery

When surgery is recommended to treat a gynecological condition, it’s only natural to consider the impact the procedure will have on your body - and your daily life while you heal.

Minimally invasive surgery – a safe and viable option for many women – offers numerous benefits over traditional surgeries, including faster recovery times and smaller incisions.

Skilled Surgeons. Simple Recovery.

Minimally invasive surgery techniques allow the surgeon to enter your pelvic area either vaginally or through very small incisions in your abdomen, often resulting in less pain, reduced scarring, and reduced recovery times. And in most cases, an overnight hospital stay isn’t necessary.

At Seven Hills, our doctors are not only knowledgeable and supportive OBGYN specialists, they’re also highly-skilled and experienced surgeons. We stay up to date on advances in technology and explore the least invasive treatment whenever possible.

What conditions can be treated?

While minimally invasive surgery is a highly recommended option for many women, it’s not always well-suited for every condition or patient. If you’ve had a c-section or have uterine fibroids, speak to your provider about your options.

Minimally invasive surgery may be recommended for:

  • Endometriosis
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Uterine polyps
  • Adenomyosis
  • Pelvic floor prolapse
  • Heavy or painful menstrual cycles
  • Adhesions/Scar tissue
  • Ectopic pregnancies

Types of Minimally Invasive Surgery

Hysterectomy

    • Laparoscopic hysterectomy – guided by a tiny camera, your surgeon will remove your uterus through a few, very small incisions in your abdomen. This is typically an outpatient surgery with a 2 week recovery period.
    • Vaginal hysterectomy – entering your pelvis vaginally, your surgeon will make an incision around your cervix and remove your uterus through your vagina. This technique does not create any visible scarring, and most women are released from the hospital the same day. The typical recovery period is 4-6 weeks.

Da Vinci robotic gynecologic surgery

This highly-advanced and precise surgical system enables your surgeon to operate with enhanced vision and control. Guided by a 3D, HD camera, they’ll utilize special instruments that respond in real time to your surgeon’s hand movements – giving them greater wrist mobility and increased precision.

Robotic surgery is used to treat numerous gynecological conditions; talk to your provider to see if this innovative technology is right for you.

Incisionless surgery for pelvic organ prolapse

Not all women who have pelvic prolapse require surgery, but it can be beneficial for women who have not responded to other treatments. During this procedure, your surgeon will enter your pelvic area vaginally and carefully shift your organs back into their original positions. If needed, they may also insert surgical mesh for support.
